Duck Rejection and other Fun at the Park

*Disclaimer - I am aware that my daughter looks like a ward of the state in many of these pictures. I promise she is usually well kept. She absolutely refused to let me fix her hair while she was playing at the park. And since I wanted to have a fun day and avoid a tantrum...I decided to just go with the flow*

We had some nice sunny weather last weekend so we decided to spend some time at the park. We packed up Jenna's bike and helmet and were on our way.

We biked.....

we climbed....

we played....

we ran around like lunatics.....

and we hung around....

And since we happened to have a lot of bread lying around that was just going to go bad in a few days anyway, we took it with us to feed the ducks.

So we set off for the water with our bread to shower the ducks with some wholesome goodness (English Muffins, Raisin Bread, and Double Fiber goodness to be exact).

The ducks, however, were not impressed.

Could it have been that ducks just weren't hungry? Or maybe they just couldn't swallow the large whole slices of bread Jenna was hurling at them??

Who knows......but being rejected by wildlife was just not something I was prepared for that day.

Normally these birds can't wait to run you down when you come anywhere near them with anything that resembles food. I typically find myself standing on a bench or the back of the truck holding my child in my arms as these blood thirsty scavengers nip at her like she's a hoagie sandwich or something.

But this time? Not so much. They scoffed at our raisin bread and laughed at our english muffins. The only thing they remotely liked, strangely enough, was the double fiber bread.

Guess we'll have the last laugh with that one...huh?

Working Girl

With the cost of goldfish crackers and Playdoh what they are and gas prices continually on the rise we finally broke the news to Jenna that it was time for her to start pulling her own weight around here.

But since when is working at "Hot Dog on a Stick" a topless gig??

I like Hornies!

this is an exact quote from Jenna tonight as we got into bed and got ready to read our stories. She looked at me with a straight face and said...

"Mommy, I like Hornies. I like to touch them. Do you like Hornies too Mommy?"

And...I just sat there with this stunned look on my face. I had no idea what she was talking about. Didn't quite know how to respond to that one. Until she pulled out her book choice for the evening.....

Ohhhhhh! Gotcha kid.

Must be some kinda cross between a Horse and a Pony. Like a "Liger" right?

Yes Jenna....Mommy likes Hornies too.

Dancing with the stars...

Our own version anyway. There's no way I'm voting either one of these two out of the competition. It's just too much fun to watch!!

It's probably only a matter of time before my husband asks me to remove this video.

Unless he generates some sort of fan club following or something. Ya never know!

Happy Birthday Bradley!!

Today was Bradley's 1st Birthday!! Bradley is the son of my best friend (since 5th grade) Sara and her husband Greg. They had a party at their house with a bounce house and lots of good food and cake and presents. Jenna had a blast (once we finally got the tantrums out of the way - see below).

Here are some pictures from the party!

Jenna didn't want to leave but we finally got her out of there and headed for home. She's now snug in her bed taking a MUCH needed nap while Mommy and Daddy enjoy a little R&R too. Actually...Mommy is going shopping and Daddy is settling down to watch a nice relaxing family movie.

Tantrum....part II

This is a follow up to the previous entry. I feel that I must explain, lest anyone think that I am a horrible horrible mother, she was throwing her wing-ding this morning because I was trying to get her dressed and ready for a birthday party this afternoon.

Here's a snippet of the fit that ensued shortly after telling her that I wanted to do something with her wild hair...

Tantrum

A year ago, the sound of a child screaming and crying and carrying on would have been like the sound of nails scraping across a chalkboard. I would have done anything to make it better...make the noise stop.

Now...we've hit the T-E-R-R-B-I-L-E Two's. And I find that I can not only ignore the incessant screaming and crying that happens on nearly a daily basis. But I can actually watch a movie, read a book, and get other things done while it is happening.

Like update my blog.

Livin in a box

Haven't had much time to write lately so I thought I'd post some silly pictures. Tonight she decided that this looked like a good place to play.

Ah...to be a kid again!!

And here's a few of her and her Godfather, Dave, and his wife Rose.

We went over to their house to watch the super bowl last weekend.

Jenna ADORES Rose BIG TIME!!

First Smile

Today Jenna drew her first smiley face!! I never knew I'd be so proud of something so seemingly small. But this is a major accomplishment!

She showed it to me and I immediately asked if I could have it. Normally she's excited to give us her drawings but this time I guess she sensed the fact that I REALLY REALLY wanted it and she proceeded to tease me for 5 minutes about it. Threatening to throw it away or scribble over it. Therefore I did what any good mother would do....I distracted her with a shiny object and I snagged the drawing. This one's going in her baby book for sure!

And, just in case anyone doubts her ABC knowledge (after that video I posted on Wednesday) here's a video I took tonight. My sister-in-law, Kim, had the fabulous idea to tape her in the bathtub. Since everyone knows that's where we ALL do our best singing right? Can't beat those acoustics!!

Great idea Kim!!
